Fire Services Credit Union (the “Credit Union”) respects the rights of its members to privacy and their right to control the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information. We are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of personal information that has been provided to us by our members. We will collect, use and disclose personal information in a responsible manner, and only to the extent necessary for the services we provide.
To ensure the highest standards of privacy, and to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”), we have developed the following Privacy Policy:
Personal Information and Privacy Statement
- The Credit Union collects and uses personal information about members to help meet and maintain the highest standards of financial service.
- Personal information can include your name, address, age, telephone number, email address, income, use of accounts and credit history, as well as the relationship of others linked to you in account services.
- Before or at the time we request your personal information, the Credit Union will identify the purposes for which it will be used or disclosed. We generally collect personal information for the following purposes:
- To understand your needs and to develop, offer and provide financial services that meet your needs;
- To determine the suitability and your eligibility for member services;
- To detect and prevent fraud, and to help safeguard the financial interests of the Credit Union and its members; and
- To meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- The collection and use of personal information will be limited only to the purposes identified to you, and will be collected by obtaining either your express or implied consent (in writing or orally) or in such other manner as permitted by law.
- The Credit Union will take all reasonable precautions to safeguard your personal information, including information kept electronically or otherwise. This involves limiting access to your personal information to those who reasonably have the need to do so. Where appropriate, personal information may be locked in filing cabinets or in offices, and will be electronically protected with passwords which are updated regularly. All of our employees are trained to collect, use and disclose personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
- The Credit Union does not and will not disclose or sell personal information to any unrelated third party for use in marketing or solicitation without your express permission.
- The Credit Union has designated a Privacy Officer, who is accountable for compliance with this Privacy Policy and our obligations under PIPEDA. Our Privacy Officer is available to members during business hours to respond to inquiries or complaints with respect to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information. All complaints will be investigated and remedial steps taken, where appropriate.
- The Credit Union will take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is accurate, complete and up-to-date. In order to facilitate this, we request that members provide us with notification of any changes to their personal information.
- Upon written request, the Credit Union will provide access to the personal information we have collected from you to ensure the accuracy and completeness of such information and to allow you to request any changes thereto. (Such access may be limited by the requirements of PIPEDA and may be subject to a nominal cost).
- The Credit Union will dispose of your personal information when appropriate, and in a manner that is secure and which respects your privacy.
In addition to the above, this website uses 'cookies' (data stored by your web browser) to collect anonymous traffic statistics which are used to improve the site. These traffic statistics are never associated with personally identifying information.
